As Finland demands broadband as a legal right for it citizens, the UK picks up the pace on fibre optic broadband:
>> Broadband analyst, Point Topic, have said that the next generation of fibre optic broadband services which go to the home will become dominant due to plans put forward by BT. Current broadband has a fast fibre optic link to street cabinets and copper cabling to the home while new services will extend the fibre optics direct into the home. BT has said it will begin it's roll-out of the new service in January 2010 and has a target of 2.5million homes by 2012.
Further research by Point Topic has shown that investment in fibre optic broadband has increased and access to the service may be quicker than originally thought. According to analyst Tim Johnson recent announcements by BT have led to improvements across the whole industry.
>> Broadband has become a legal right in Finland. The Finland Government's Ministry of Transport and Communication has said that all residents will be entitled to a minimum of 1mbps from July 2010. From 2015 fibre optic broadband with speeds of up to 100mbps will be an entitlement to all Finland residents.
>> H20 Networks are to introduce fibre optics broadband to South Aristine using it's Fibrezone technology. As part of an agreement with local authorities in the area they hope to be fully connected by the end of the summer. †
