 PlusNet New Fibre Broadband Offering:
[Press Release] -- Plusnet today reveals the best value fibre broadband package to enter the market – Plusnet Fibre is available from just £16.49 a month. [i]
The new service utilises fibre optic technology to offer download speeds of up to 40Mbps. On average, this offers internet users in enabled areas the chance to triple their broadband speed.
Recent customer trials of Plusnet Fibre have seen an overwhelming change in users’ speed capabilities with 74 per cent of customers who previously experienced speeds of 2-12Mbps saying they now experience speeds of 30Mbps or more.
Consumer experience is also being transformed, especially in households where more than one person is using the internet at the same time – 75 per cent of trialists have increased internet usage since moving to Plusnet Fibre with close to one in seven (14 per cent) reporting a combined internet usage of 10-15 hours a day.
The faster Plusnet Fibre service offers greater bandwidth capacity which benefits homes of multi-users. People can enjoy simultaneous use of internet services such as HD, catch-up TV, social networking, online games and video chat. It further offers high-quality streaming of entertainment services such as iPlayer, YouTube and iTunes.
Jamie Ford, Plusnet Chief Executive Officer said of the launch: “Plusnet Fibre is the next generation of broadband and 96 per cent of our trialists say they would recommend the service to friends. This will really benefit households where there are several users and with increased speeds, it makes it possible to download a 30 minute TV show in less time than it takes to make the cup of tea to enjoy with it as you sit down to watch.”
The Plusnet Fibre trial has seen people embrace these capabilities and start using the internet in new ways. Close to four in five of all surveyed trialists (88 per cent) said they now watch catch-up TV through the Internet; 11 per cent now participate in video chat and 9 per cent have started gaming online. Meanwhile, 13 per cent have now started working from home with one in ten people purchasing an additional computer for the household to take advantage of the multi-use benefits of Plusnet Fibre.
Plusnet Fibre utilises technology known as ’Fibre to the Cabinet’ or ‘FTTC’ which connects telephone exchanges to street cabinets using fibre optic links. The faster network can then be used to deliver more bandwidth-hungry broadband services. More than 4 million premises already have access to fibre enabled services and this is set to increase to two thirds of all UK premises by the end of 2015.
Plusnet Fibre will be available for pre-registration from 29 March, 2011 on an 18 month contract. Set-up involves an engineer’s visit to your home and the provision of a new fibre-capable router. In addition to the best value fibre broadband, customers can take advantage of ‘free hours’ between midnight and 8am every day, when use of the internet does not contribute to your monthly usage allowance. Customers who also take a phone line with this product before June will enjoy free set-up – a saving of £25.[ii]
